Athens Building Corporation has been awarded the BRAND-NEW construction of a 600-square-foot concession stand for the football field at the Luter Sports Complex in Smithfield, VA. This project entails 2-Story Concession Stand Building w/ bathrooms, a meeting space and storage. As this is a new construction project, the preparation involves electrical testing, erosion control, site mapping, planning and setting goals with all subcontractors.
July/ August 2024:
The site preparation involved relocating the electrical panel and rack. The layout was marked with spray paint, all field receptacles were tested, and erosion control measures were implemented. Once these initial preparations were complete, the team moved forward with the foundation work.
The subsequent step involved removing the batter boards and laying the foundation blocks. After that, mortar cubes are prepared, and the foundation walls are established! After all the framing is done, the electrical and plumbing lines are roughed in. A sample of grout is evaluated for consistency while the termite treatment is being completed.
Throughout August, the team installed through-wall flashing at the water table. Following that, they continued with box framing and sheathing the floor.
September 2024:
Framing on the second floor is progressing, along with the installation of PVC fascia boards and ongoing electrical work. The cupola framing details from the plans are being examined to prepare for the installation of the fascia boards at the cupola.
The roofing contractors install the shingles while the masonry team continued to install brick. Beams are placed across openings to carry the weight of the structure called lintels. These lintels go across the windows and doors. Next, our team installed bricks for the window openings, while the door contractor fitted metal frames for all the doors.
October 2024:
When the weather permits, our team can install windows along with metal door slabs and hardware. Soon after, the insulation contractor will complete the insulation for both the first and second floors. Next, we will proceed with the installation of sheetrock on the walls and ceilings. Since the vent sleeves were installed last month, the mechanic can now finalize the vent penetration, enabling us to install the unit next.
Exciting exterior projects are on the horizon!
