Athens Building Corp. is awarded the Contract for Exterior Renovations to the Lyceum: Alexandria’s History Museum. The Lyceum is a historic building that was constructed in 1839. Currently, the building serves as both a museum and a learning center. The operating hours for the facility are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., EST. The facility shall remain fully-functional during the Construction process and must be accessible during operational hours.
This project includes demolition of deteriorated plaster areas, exterior plaster repairs and waterproofing. Tuck pointing of brick, replacement of damaged wood trim, caulking, carpentry, door hardware maintenance, and gutter and downspout inspection/repair. Exterior Protective Coatings. All historic work completed within this project shall fall under the purview of the Building Architectural Review (BAR).

For a quick primer on Alexandria’s history, stop by this small city museum in a beautiful Greek Revival building dating from 1839. A somewhat dusty array of artifacts, vintage photos and maps tell the stories of Native Americans, colonists fighting for independence, and northerners and southerners caught up in the Civil War (Alexandria became the longest occupied Confederate city).
